City Rebrand: Chattanooga

This an unofficial rebrand of Chattanooga, TN. I got to know Chattanooga on several visits to see my Dad, who had been Director of Music for Saint Paul's Episcopal Church there until his death in 2014. It’s a beautifully situated, modern city, full of warm people and great food. It’s also home to the terrific Hunter Museum of American Art, where, as a docent, my Dad read to young school children.

The museum’s West Wing was designed by former Frank Gehry associate, and native Chattanoogan, Randall Stout. On one visit I was lucky enough to have the largest of the modern art galleries in that building to myself, just me and the art. Being alone, surrounded by silence and some of the greatest works of the 20th century was truly awe-inspiring. (Can’t get that in New York City!)

My inspiration for the rebrand design was the striking green glass roof of the Chattanooga Aquarium (seen in the first billboard), the autumn foliage, and the modern, clean feel of the city (free public wi-fi), and my emotional reaction that afternoon at the Hunter Museum. To view additional versions of the billboard, postcard, banners, guide and merchandise, please visit www.andyreynolds.nyc
